Ian Stephen was born in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides and still lives there but travels widely to storytelling and literature festivals in many countries. He is a previous winner of the storytelling cup a the Traditional Music and Song Association Festival at Kinross, Scotland. Inaugural winner of the Robert Louis Stevenson Award in 1995 when he resigned from the Coastguard service to be a full-time writer, performer and artist. Creative Scotland Award to navigate hs own vesse through the settings of the great Scottish maritime stories (2002 - 3). In 2007 performed suite of St Kilda stories with new music by David P Graham in Bonn and Cologne. Regular guest at Edinburgh International Storytelling Festival and guest at Cape Clear Island storytelling Festival 2009. Author: Many artists' books with Morning Star Publications and many Scottish Arts Organisations. Collections of poetry with Dangaroo Press (Denmark), Polygon (Edinburgh). Most recent (Adrift - New and Selected poems with Czech translations) with Periplum (Olomouc, Czech Republic.) Short stories with audio CD - Mackerel and Creamola, Polygon/pocketbooks, Edinburgh Member of International Storytelling Network. |
